When Mia awoke, she found
herself in strong arms. She sighed
contently as her eyes fluttered open. She looked up to see Anubis
looking down at her with his sea green eyes. He seemed to be
thinking about something, but smiled when he noticed she was awake.
"You're awake."
He seemed to have a hint of sadness in his voice.
In the back of his mind, he knew they would be splitting up soon.
He
had never told anyone that he was lonely before, let alone even
knew
he was lonely until he was alone with her. Something in him just
longed to hold her in his arms forever.
"Yeah." Came Mia's
soft and sleepy reply. "I hope you haven't
been up too long." She smiled slightly as she sat up. The
truth was
that Anubis had been up for close to an hour, just watching her
sleep
and trying to figure this all out.
"Not long, a few minutes
maybe." He lied. Mia looked at him for a
long moment before talking.
"We better get going.
Don't wanna starve out here ya know."
Anubis cocked an eyebrow at her.
"And where exactly will
we be going." He eyed her carefully. Mia
giggled slightly.
"To my house of course!"
She stood up and waited for Anubis to do
the same. Anubis' eyes flew open and he jumped up to his feet.
"You're house? I don't
think that's a good idea."
"Why not? Because you
happen to be enemies with the Ronins?" She
asked him nonchalantly.
"Well, yeah....but we'll
probably end up killing eachother within 5
minutes!" He protested.
"You're going to be staying
whether they like it or not. It is my
house. Besides, they're gone all the time anyways." She
gave him a
very serious look. "And I'm not about to throw you back to
Talpa."
She had a look of pure determination on her face. Anubis knew
the
battle was lost. He sighed, his eyes softening a bit.
"If you insist."
He shrugged, not feeling up to coming up with
witty comebacks for everything she said. Mia rolled her eyes
and
started off. She figured her house wasn't too far from here.
They
walked in silence for what seemed like hours. Mia kept her gaze
on
the ground for awhile, thinking. She and Anubis stopped when they
reached her house. She looked around nervously, hoping the guys
were
not home right now. Darn! The car was in the driveway and she
could
see someone moving around in the kitchen. She gave Anubis a smile.
"Well we made it."
She declared proudly. They had walked a few
hours, in total silence that made both of them feel real
uncomfortable. Anubis nodded.
"Yeah, we did."
He smiled at her. Mia looked at him and noticed
that glint of craziness was gone ffrom his eyes.
"It's now or never."
She took a deep breath before starting
towards the porch. But she and Anubis never made it. Dark clouds
gathered in the sky and lightning crashed. Mia jumped in surprise,
but Anubis looked up into the sky. He gritted his teeth angrily
because he knew Talpa was sending someone after him. Apparently
whoever was in the house had noticed the clouds too, because he
ran
outside. Ryo and White Blaze were the only ones home. The others
had been looking for Mia. He gasped, when he saw the warlord
there.
Before any of them were able to react, the black lightning struck
Mia
and Anubis and they vanished into blackness of the night.
