Chapter Twenty-Seven

Kiefer tossed and turned next to his brother. What was with him whenever
their parents fought? Even when he was a baby, he could never sleep right.
He sat up and looked around the room. Kieran was sleeping next to Unky Cale
and didn't seemed bothered at all. Kiefer slowly rolled off the bed.

"Kief?" Kieran softly called out. "Where are you going?"

"Nowhere." He slowly turned to his brother who was sitting up in bed.

"Are you going to sneak into Mama and Papa's room again?"

"And what if I do?"

"Then I'm coming with you." The other boy scrambled off the bed.

They quietly made their way to the door when Cale shifted. Both of them
froze and
waited. He didn't get up and finally stopped when he found a comfortable
spot. They breathed a sigh of relief and started walking again.

"Why'd you want to come with me?" Kiefer asked as they got outside.

"I wanna see what happened. 'Sides, couldn't really sleep."

"But you look like you were."

"I just close my eyes Kief."

They got to their parent's door and placed their ears up to it. No sound
could be heard from the other side and they were sort of relieved. They
slowly opened the door and peeked in. The room was in darkness but they
could make out forms on the bed. Kiefer turned to his brother as if to ask a
question. Kieran nodded as an answer to the silent question. They slowly
went in and walked towards the bed.

"We should have known they weren't going to kill each other," Kieran
whispered as they stood at the foot of the bed. Their parents were sleeping
in each others arms, very much alive.

"But we have to make sure." Kiefer started to climb up the bed as Kieran
followed.
They stood there, looking down at them.

"What are you boys doing here?" Anubis said without opening his eyes,
startling them both.

"Papa?" they both asked.

"Well, are you going to answer?" He opened his eyes and looked at them.

"Umm...well..."

"Leave them alone," Mia whispered, shifting to look at the boys, too. "You
know they get restless whenever we fight." She patted the space in front of
her. "Come here boys."

They smiled and quickly scrambled for the space. She laughed as they both
wrapped their arms around her. Anubis reached a hand over her and ruffled
their hair.

"You boys are going to sleep, right?"

They both vigorously nodded but still held on to Mia. Anubis propped himself
up on an elbow and looked over Mia. She smiled up at him between two heads.
He leaned down and kissed her while a hand disappeared under the covers. She
managed to push him away while keeping the twins quiet for they had already
fallen asleep.

"What?"

"In case you haven't noticed, we have company. And they don't look like
they're going to let me go."

"I'll go send for Cale to take them away. We'll be alone in no time."

"If they went into all the trouble to leave Cale, they can stay."

"Does this mean I have to go sleep in his room?"

"Only if you want to."

She settled back down with still two boys in her arms. Her eyes closed and
went back to sleep. Anubis laid back down and spooned up behind her. His
hand rested on her hip and she instinctively pulled closer to him.

"Would you stop fidgeting Sage?" Cye asked as he tried to tend to his wounds.

"I'm trying to figure out who those boys were," he answered.

"What do you mean?" Kento asked as he sat down next to him. "They looked
like pretty normal kids. Of course, they did look like Anubis."

"That's what I was thinking." Sage sat up against Cye's protest. The other
boy glared at him and gave up. "I had to do a double take before I stopped."

"Which reminds me, why did you stop?" Ryo asked from across him. "You were
about to knock them out then you stopped. Don't tell me because they looked
like the Warlord."

"At first I was surprised. I mean, who would have guessed that there would
be two little kids out there that are the Warlord's look-alikes."

"But...?"

"But...there was something else. Something about the two of them reminded me
of Mia."

"Oh come on, not this again!" Kento threw his hands up. "Aren't you over
her at all?"

"That's what I saw, I don't expect you to believe it."

"Then there's only one explanation," Rowen spoke up. "Mia could be alive."
